Man Accused Of Girlfriend's Murder Arrested: Police

The body of a woman believed to be Rebecca Suhrheinrich was found in Greens Bayou Tuesday. Her boyfriend was arrested Wednesday morning.

HOUSTON, TX -- A 58-year-old woman who was reported missing on Monday was found in Greens Bayou on Tuesday. The man who police believe killed her was arrested and charged with her murder Wednesday morning.

Houston Police arrested 46-year-old Jeffrey McDonald shortly after midnight Wednesday. Lt. Chris Sandoval, the lead homicide investigator with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, said officers approached McDonald as he stood in the middle of Lockwood Street taking off his clothes.

Sandoval said police checked his identification and learned McDonald was wanted for the murder of Rebecca Suhrheinrich and took him into custody.

McDonald, who appeared to be under the influence of drugs when he was arrested, was taken to an area hospital for treatment and will be questioned by police on Wednesday, Sandoval said.

Suhrheinrich didn’t show up for work on July 27, and there was no answer on her phone when her co-workers called to check on her. When they didn’t hear from her on Monday, they went to her apartment and found her gone, the apartment ransacked and a large amount of blood, according to investigators.

Investigators who were canvassing the area near her apartment recovered the body of a woman on Tuesday that Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said was not positively identified but was most likely Suhrheinrich.

Sandoval said they believe Suhrheinrich and McDonald were involved in a dating relationship for at least a month before her disappearance.

"We will continue to do everything we can to bring all of this into a package form to the District Attorney's office, when it comes to prosecution. We still have miles and miles to go before we get done with this," Sandoval said. "An interview still has to take place with the suspect, so we glean information for him as to what happened and why it happened."
