HOUSTON, TX -- A man who barricaded himself in his home after a fight with his wife, surrendered peacefully after a six and a half hour standoff.

"It turns out that they had a disturbance back on Sunday in which a gun was discharged and the (man) had held a gun to her head and threatened to kill her," said HPD Capt. Larry Baimbridge.

During the fight on Sunday, investigators said the woman initially had the gun and that when the couple struggled over the weapon, it went off as the man tried to take it away from her.

When police arrived Monday night, they found the woman outside the home with a young child, and the man barricaded inside alone.

Police attempted to coax the man from the home, but he refused to come out.

At about 2:30 a.m., SWAT was called to the scene, and after a three-hour negotiation, the man surrendered peacefully.

The man was taken to the Fort Bend County Jail and is being held without bond at this time.
