Neighbors Rescue Woman From House Fire

A woman who was trapped in her home during a fire was rescued by her neighbors, but they were not able to rescue her dog

HOUSTON, TX -- A Houston area grandmother escaped her burning home early Thursday with the help of her neighbors, but they were unable to save her dog.

Firefighters were called to a home Corksie Street near Scott in southeast Houston at about 12:30 a.m. for a fire.

Patricia Chance told KTRK she was trying to get out of her burning home through a window, but the window had burglar bars.

She ran to another window in her home and was able to escape with the help of her neighbors, who pulled her to safety.

However, her dog was unable to get out and died in the fire, officials said.

The woman was taken to an area hospital where she was treated for cuts from the broken glass.
