Here are the top five stories today in Houston:
1. A 15-year-old teen was shot and killed while trying to conduct a transaction Thursday morning, according to Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez. The incident happened outside of a residence in the 7000 block of Pavillion Point before 8 a.m. (KHOU 11)
2. During a May 25 Houston City Council meeting, members passed an ordinance appropriating $5.3 million for a Memorial Drive panel replacement project through Memorial Park. The ordinance is an agreement between the city of Houston and the Uptown Development Authority. (Community Impact News)
3. As the start of the National Rifle Association Convention in Houston nears this weekend, many are preparing to protest in downtown, including parents who have lost kids to gun violence. Non-profit Moms Demand Action is one of the groups planning the protest. (Fox 26 Houston)
4. Apollo 13 astronaut Fred Haise was spotted at the Be An Angel Awards Gala. During a silent auction, the live event brought in more than $600,000 to the host organization, which aims to improve the quality of life for children with multiple disabilities or profound deafness. (CultureMap Houston)
5.The Houston Astros beat the Cleveland Guardians 2-1 Wednesday night to win their series. Yuli Gurriel and José Siri had two hits each, while Cristian Javier tied a career high record with nine strikeouts. Next Houston heads to an opener of a three-game series at Seattle. (KHOU 11)

- Under Houston Independent School District's revised compensation plan, the starting salary for an HISD teacher in 2022-2023 will be $61,500. All teacher salaries will increase 11% on average. (Facebook)
- In observance of Memorial Day, the Houston Astros Team Store will be closed today through Monday. It will reopen for normal business hours on Tuesday, May 31. (Facebook)
