HOUSTON — The Harris County Medical Examiner's Office confirmed on Monday that the remains found on Friday near Hope, Arkansas were those of Maleah Davis, officials confirmed. The medical examiner's office has not confirmed an official cause of death.

The remains of the missing child were found along a roadside in Arkansas Friday afternoon, and were flown to Houston late Friday night.

The information that led to the gruesome discovery outside of Hope, Arkansas was shared with Houston Community Activist Quanell X by Derion Vence, during a visit at the Harris County Jail.

Quanell X said Vence confessed that he’d killed Maleah and dumped her body on the side of a roadway near Hope, Arkansas.

Quanell X alerted police after the jailhouse visit, and then held a news conference with Texas EquuSearch Executive Director Tim Miller about the break in the case.

Several hours later, police in Hempstead County, Arkansas announced that a black plastic trash bag containing bones and blood were discovered in the same area where Vence claimed he dumped Maleah's body.

Houston Police homicide investigators accompanied Miller on a chartered flight from Houston, and landed several about an hour after the remains were discovered. HPD investigators said they were proceeding cautiously since the alleged confession was not made to police.

Meanwhile, Dorian Cotlar, the attorney representing Vence, filed a motion on Friday asking a judge to bar Quanell X from jailhouse visits to his client, Fox-26 reported.

Vence, who was in a relationship with Maleah’s mother Brittany Bowens, was the last person to see the child alive and claimed the missing girl was abducted by three men in a blue pickup.
