Spring Breaking Ground On New Athletic Stadium This Weekend

Everyone is invited to the groundbreaking of the Spring Independent School District's new athletic stadium this weekend.

FROM SPRING ISD

HOUSTON – The Spring Independent School District community is invited to attend the district’s groundbreaking ceremony for its replacement stadium at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 8. The event will feature student entertainment and athletes as well as remarks from Spring Superintendent Dr. Rodney E. Watson, Board President Rhonda Newhouse and NFL Super Bowl Champion Tony Ugoh, who graduated from Westfield High School.

“This stadium was made possible by voters who turned out to support our Bond 2016, so we are very excited to be able to share this milestone with the entire Spring ISD community,” Watson said. “We’re looking forward to this facility serving our district and community for generations to come.”

The stadium is being built on a 117-acre parcel of land off Cypresswood Dr. just south of Burchett Elementary School and will feature a state-of-the art turf field and seating for 8,500 fans.

The 19,650-square-foot field house will have locker rooms, district athletic offices, and a 6,300-square-foot community room with seating for up to 300 people. The facility will accommodate football, soccer, band competitions and other community events.

A special feature will be a memorial plaza to honor service members from the Spring area. The district’s current stadium – the Leonard George Stadium – is about 50 years old and no longer meets the requirements of a modern school district.

The replacement stadium is set to open in the third quarter of 2019.
