Here are the top five stories today in Houston:

1. The Harris County Toll Road Authority has announced two nightly closures in the Tomball area through June 2 as construction continues on the direct connector project between the tolled portion of Highway 249 and the Grand Parkway. (Community Impact News)

2. The former UB Preservspace at 1609 Westheimer now has a new tenant, a CBD coffee shop and cocktail bar called Grinders Coffee Bar and The CBD Apothecary. UB Preserv had its last service on December 23 and sat empty for some time. (Chron)

3. A woman was hospitalized after she was shot in the face during an argument at a pool party in southwest Houston, police said. Rashawn Isiah Williams, 21, is charged with aggravated assault of a family member in connection with the incident, according to police. (ABC 13)

4. A construction worker died Tuesday morning at an east Houston worksite after getting trapped in a machine, according to the Houston Fire Department. It happened at about 11 a.m. in the 12700 block of East Freeway and Halsey Street. (KHOU 11)

5. A surveillance photo has been released of a vehicle seen fleeing the scene of a deadly shooting in a food truck parking lot in north Houston on Sunday night. The victim, 23-year-old Mark Aguilar, was killed while waiting for tacos he ordered for his wife. An investigation is still underway. (Click2Houston)

  • After a COVID-19 hiatus, Houston will once again host the Shell Freedom Over Texas July 4 event in-person. Freedom Over Texas is a 6-hour event featuring live entertainment, festivities, and a fireworks show. Hometown-favorite country singer and songwriter Clay Walker will headline this year's event.   • Magnolia ISD is providing students with healthy meals this summer until July 21 at most campuses. Food will be distributed Mondays through Fridays through the Summer Food Service Program. (Community Impact News)
  • An alleged member of the Southwest Cholos gang has admitted to helping smuggle young women across the border and then forcing them to work for a family-run sex trafficking ring that operated, undetected for nearly a decade, in Houston's Gulfton neighborhood. (Subscription: Houston Chronicle)
