Suspect In Firecracker Heist Caught After Short Police Chase

Police arrested a man they believe was responsible for stealing at least one trailer loaded with fireworks.

HARRIS COUNTY, TX --A man that police believe was responsible for stealing one of two trailers loaded with fireworks, was arrested following a short pursuit on Interstate 45 on Tuesday.

Harris County Deputy Constable's spotted the man on I-45 and followed him through downtown before trying to pull him over on the Gulf Freeway at about 3 p.m.

The driver took off and after a short distance, hit one car and a guard railing the South Loop.

The man, whose name has not yet been release, is the same man who was accused of stealing the fireworks from a trailer on Monday in the 11000 block of Barker Cypress Road.

Investigators have not recovered any of the fireworks.

The driver could face felony evading, as well as felony theft charges.

The Harris County Fire Marshal's Office said at a press conference Monday that the same pickup was used to steal two trailers loaded with fireworks over a two day span, and that the same pickup was used to steal a generator from a Home Depot in Spring.
