3 Teens Charged In Shooting Death Of Good Samaritan: Police

Police have arrested 3 teens in connection with the murder of 29-year-old Moyses Arreguin.

HOUSTON, TX -- Three teens who police say played a role in the shooting death of a 29-year-old man during an armed robbery attempt last week were arrested and charged with murder. Police arrested a 15-year-old boy Wednesday morning. His name was not released, but police believe he is one of the two people who shot Moyses Arreguin on July 27.

Harris County Homicide Detective Chris Sandoval said the boy was identified after investigators released the surveillance video on Monday from the shooting. Sandoval said he expects to have the second shooter in custody soon.

"We are not going to stop," said Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez. "We are going to make sure we tighten up all the loose ends."

Arreguin was outside his home in the 19000 block of West Hardy Road on July 27 about 11 p.m. when he heard 16-year-old Sergio Bruno screaming as two other teens approached him.

A witness said Arreguin could see that the two men had guns as he grabbed a baseball bat and went after them. Arreguin hit one of the men and was shot in the back three times during the fight.

The Harris County Sheriff's Office released home surveillance on Monday that showed four men in a dark four-door sedan circling the neighborhood before coming to a stop near Bruno's home.

The video showed two teens getting out of the back seat and approaching Bruno and then pulling out a gun. Arreguin is then seen coming after the two men with the baseball bat before shots rang out, leaving the father of two small children dead in his neighbor's driveway.

On Wednesday afternoon, police arrested 19-year-old Gilbert Gomez Jr., who investigators said drove the car, and several hours later, arrested a 16-year-old boy. Both have been charged with murder.

Gonzalez said the shooting death was "a heartbreaking incident of just a Good Samaritan stepping up, doing the right thing, then trying to help somebody. He gave his life so that a 16-year-old neighbor could live his life. He's a hero."
