Wild Police Chase Ends With Head-on Crash, Gunfire
A suspect is in custody after a brief police chase, a shootout and a head-on crash.

HOUSTON, TX – A wild police chase between Harris County Precinct 3 deputy constables and the driver of a black SUV ended with a head-on crash in a parking lot in northeast Houston. And, after the driver was finally stopped and deputies went to check on him, he pulled a gun on them and fired at them.
It all began at Uvalde and Freeport streets at about 10:30 a.m., when the driver of the SUV refused to pull over, said Detective Chris Sandoval. The chase ended a short time later when the driver crashed head-on into a Lays Potato Chip delivery truck parked in a lot along Uvalde Street.
Deputies walked up to check on the condition of the driver. That's when he pointed a gun out the window at fired and fired one shot. Deputies fired back at the driver. No one was injured in the shooting, Sandoval said.

Sandoval said the driver suffered a broken leg in the crash. He was taken to an area hospital for treatment. He could face charges of felony evading and aggravated assault, officials said. The identity of the driver has not been released.
Officials have not said why they were trying to pull the SUV over.
