Woman Shot By Police Serving A Federal Warrant
Police accidentally wounded a woman while serving a federal warrant at a home in southeast Houston on Thursday, officials said.

HOUSTON, TX — A woman was shot and wounded by a Houston police officer who was serving a warrant, police said. The shooting happened just before 8 a.m. in the 7700 block of Greenstone, in southeast Houston.
Assistant Police Chief Troy Fenner said officers were at the home serving a federal arrest warrant on federal narcotics charges, as well as charges for assaulting a federal officer.
Fenner said when the officers went to the home, they saw the man with the dog and told him to put the dog away when the dog became aggressive.

The man put the dog in the house, but when officers approached the man to arrest him, a woman came outside from a backdoor, and let the dog back outside. Fenner said the dog aggressively charged at the officers.
One of the officers drew his weapon and fired several shots at the dog. Fenner said the dog was hit, wounded and was wounded by at least one of the shots.

A woman who was standing nearby was hit by what Fenner said may have been bullet fragments when the officer fired at the dog. The woman was taken to an area hospital and is in good condition.
The officer, who was not identified, was placed on paid administrative leave. Fenner said the woman could face charges if investigators determine she released the dog intentionally.
The shooting is under investigation.
