Q: What can I do in my garden during the rain?

A: It’s wonderful to see all your plants basking in a nice rain shower. Gather your rubber boots and your rain jacket and get outside to look more closely at the structure of your garden.
Look to see where the rain water is draining. Do you have places where it is damned up and creating a soggy area — if so, this might be a good spot for a rain garden with plants that enjoy wet root zones such as crinum lilies or cardinal flower. Could you add a small drain way through a garden bed so that the water can run off further toward your trees where the roots will enjoy the water filtering through the soil? Or do you want to add a rain barrel to store some water to use for houseplants?
