Atascocita Shooting: SWAT Arrests Man After Barricade Situation

A woman who was shot multiple times is in surgery in stable condition. She is expected to survive her injuries, police said.

ATASCOCITA, TX — A woman was shot multiple times, and a man was arrested after he barricaded for several hours in an Atascocita home near Lake Houston on early Wednesday morning, according to the Harris County Sheriff's Office.

The woman called authorities and asked for help at the residence.

Deputies got to the Atascocita Shores Drive home at approximately 11:30 p.m. Tuesday. Authorities saw the man with a gun but were unable to make contact, Harris County Sheriff's Office Senior Deputy Thomas Gilliland said. SWAT personnel entered the home shortly after 3 a.m., and a gunshot was heard at some point in the standoff, according to Gilliland.

The victim was taken to a hospital and was in surgery in stable condition Wednesday morning. In addition to gunshot wounds, she also had a laceration on her head. Reports from doctors indicate she will survive her injuries, Gilliland said.

The relationship between the suspect and the victim is unknown.

The man is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and could face other charges, pending the Harris County Sheriff's Office violent crimes unit investigation.
