Crews Begin Repairing Hamblen Road Sinkhole In Kingwood

KINGWOOD, TX —Crews from Houston Public Works began work on a section of Hamblen Road that was washed out and became a sinkhole during three days of severe weather last week.

A stretch of Hamblen Road between Redbud Lane and Bonnie Glen Lane have been closed since May 7 when a section of the roadway collapsed, forming a sinkhole about 10 feet deep.

According to Houston City Councilman Dave Martin, the repairs will include a complete reconstruction of the roadway.

"The contractor has completed mobilization and has equipment on site as of (Tuesday). Crews will be working during the daylight hours, and will not be working weekends," Martin said in a statement.

The work is expected to be completed within four to six weeks, weather permitting. Residents may experience an increase in noise levels because of trucks and equipment in the area.

Martin thanked Houston Public Works, Houston Police, and Houston Fire Departments for their quick response to the scene following the collapse, and keeping motorists from driving into the sinkhole.
