HS Football Playoffs: Who Will Atascocita, Summer Creek Play?

Atascocita and Summer Creek advanced to the area round of the Class 6A football playoffs. Who will each play in the second round?

HUMBLE, TX — Atascocita and Summer Creek high schools advanced to the second round of the the UIL Class 6A Division I football playoffs last week.

Atascocita (9-2) finished second in District 21-6A and are 10th in the Dave Campbell's Texas Football 6A rankings. The Eagles defeated Deer Park 49-10 in the bi-district round and will face No. 22 Dickinson (9-2) in the area round at Galena Park ISD Stadium at 7 p.m. Friday.

The winner of Friday's game will play the winner of Cy-Fair and No. 20 Fort Bend Ridge Point in the regional round.

Here's how Region III of the Class 6A Division I playoffs shapes up in the area round:

  • No. 23 Jersey Village vs. No. 24 Katy Tompkins
  • No. 7 North Shore vs. Clear Springs
  • Cy-Fair vs. No. 20 Fort Bend Ridge Point
  • No. 10 Atascocita vs. No. 22 Dickinson

Predictions: All four of the experts at Dave Campbell's Texas Football picked North Shore to get out of Region III. Greg Tepper picked North Shore to win the state title. Atascocita lost to North Shore 31-21 on Oct. 29, and the district foes would meet again in the state quarterfinals if they each win their next two games.

Atascocita historical perspective: The Eagles are making their eighth straight playoff appearance. Before their current streak began in 2013, Atascocita had only made the playoffs twice since the program started in 2006. The Eagles are looking for their first state title game appearance.

In 6A Division II, Summer Creek is in the area round after beating Channelview 55-28 in the bi-district round. The Bulldogs (8-3) will face Pearland Dawson (8-3) at Turner Stadium at 7 p.m. Friday.

The winner of Friday's game will play the winner of Memorial and Cinco Ranch in the regional round next weekend.

  • Stratford vs. No. 2 Katy
  • C.E. King vs. Shadow Creek
  • Memorial vs. Cinco Ranch
  • Summer Creek vs. Pearland Dawson

Predictions: All four of Dave Campbell's experts picked Katy to advance from Region III, and Matt Stepp picked Katy to win the state championship.

Summer Creek historical perspective: The Bulldogs are making their sixth playoff appearance since the program began in 2010. Summer Creek is in the playoffs for the third time in five seasons and has a playoff record of 6-5.
