Kingwood Residents Impacted By May Flood Can Apply For SBA Loans

KINGWOOD, TX — Residents and businesses in Kingwood impact by the severe weather and flooding during the May 7 storm event are eligible to apply for improvement loans through the Small Business Administration, according to Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo’s office.

Hidalgo announced last week that homeowners, renters, and business owners are eligible to apply for the low-interest loans.

A fast-moving storm system dumped more than four inches of rain over saturated areas of southeast Montgomery County, and northeast Harris County within an hour on May 7.

The storm caused street flooding in areas of Humble, Kingwood and Atascocitsa, officials said.
The severe weather forced many schools in Humble, New Caney, and Cleveland ISD to keep their students on campus due to the amount of flooding on May 7 and 8.

As many as 400 homes were flooded with police and firefighters responding to more than 200 calls for help.

Those impacted by the disaster can apply for loans of up to $200,000 at a rate of less than 2 percent interest.

SBA representatives will be available in Richmond at the William Travis Building, located at 301 Jackson Street, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Officials will be on hand starting Tuesday, and continuing through Thursday, July 25.
