HUMBLE, TX — Mercer Botanic Gardens will be able to accelerate and improve its recovery from Hurricane Harvey, thanks to the tremendous success of this year’s annual March Mart Plant Sale fundraiser, which raised nearly double the funds of the previous year’s event.

The two-day plant sale attracted more than 4,000 shoppers and raised more than $110,000, up from last year’s $64,000. The sale is sponsored by The Mercer Society, a private nonprofit supporting Mercer’s development and expansion.

March Mart began in 1974 as a fundraiser featuring plants in old coffee cans and milk cartons donated by local garden-club members. Since then, it has grown into one of the largest plant sales in the Gulf Coast region, averaging 3,000 attendees a year.
