Porter Student Charged With Murder In Slaying Of Kingwood Teen

The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office arrested Bryan Smith Jr. on Wednesday. The suspect and the victim both attended Porter High School.

KINGWOOD, TX — A 17-year-old Porter High School student was arrested Wednesday morning and charged with murder in the slaying of a 14-year-old Kingwood teen Monday night.

The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office, along with a precautionary SWAT team, executed a search warrant Wednesday on Knights Tower Drive in Kingwood and arrested Bryan Smith Jr., according to authorities.

The 14-year-old also was a Porter student, and the two knew each other and could be considered "friends," Montgomery County Sheriff's Office spokesperson Scott Spencer said in a news conference.

Detectives are still investigating, and the motive remains unknown. The shooting is not believed to be related to an incident at Porter High School on Saturday night, Spencer said.

New Caney ISD released a statement Sunday stating the homecoming dance was cut short Saturday because of "allegations a student possessed a deadly weapon." New Caney ISD said the allegations had not been confirmed.

Two men were seen by a witness fleeing the area after gunshots were fired in the Kings Mill subdivision Monday night. Additional charges could be brought against more people, Spencer said.

As a 17-year-old, Smith will be tried as an adult on the charge of capital murder, Spencer said.
