Sediment: Kingwood’s greatest flood control challenge
Sediment: Kingwood's greatest flood control challenge
Chairman Stan Sarman began the August Lake Houston Redevelopment Authority and Tax Increment Zone No. 10 meeting (TIRZ) by explaining the Harris County Flood Control District has been doing work in the Montgomery County part of Kingwood around both the Kingwood diversion ditch and the nearby upper part of Bens Branch in order to improve overall drainage. He noted the work involves removing silt and sand from the drainage areas along a line running southwest from Bens Branch at Northpark Drive into the diversion ditch as it flows straight south toward the San Jacinto. He said four to five feet of accumulated silt and sand has been removed which has been contributing to redirecting rising floodwaters into Bens Branch when it should have been more efficiently flowing into the diversion ditch.
