State Rep. Huberty Not Running For Re-election: Report
Dan Huberty, who is from Kingwood and represents House District 127, said he is ready for 'new opportunities in life.'

HUMBLE-KINGWOOD, TX — State Rep. Dan Huberty announced Tuesday he doesn't intend to run for re-election, according to a report from the Texas Tribune.
Huberty's term ends in January 2023 and opens up the race for House District 127 in northeast Harris County for the 2022 election.
Huberty, who lives in Kingwood, said that it was time to pursue new opportunities, according to the Tribune.

An advocate for public education, Huberty served on the Public Education Committee throughout his time in office, including as chair for the 85th and 86th Legislative Sessions. He spearheaded The Texas Plan, which was passed in 2019.

The law reformed school finance in Texas and invested $9 billion to improve teacher compensation and quality, increase student outcomes through early education, special education, dual language and technology and lessen the property tax burden for school funding.
Before he was a lawmaker, Huberty served on the Humble ISD Board of Trustees.
Huberty was arrested after a crash in Porter on April 23 when he failed a field sobriety test, and he apologized on the House floor in May.
