Water Quality Concerns in Kingwood

Some Kingwood residents have complained about brown water coming from their faucets.

Kingwood, TX -- Some Kingwood residents may have noticed increased activity around water storage areas. Residents have nothing to fear, according to Houston City Council Member Dave Martin.

Martin, who's district encompasses Kingwood, issued a statement explaining that in some of the transmission lines city employees noticed a discoloration of the water, in other words the water was brown.

The brown water is a side-effect of high demand. To address the increased demand brought on by summer heat, the city had to turn on additional ground wells, according to Martin.

The increased flow from the new wells disturbed some sediments that had settled in some of the wells and in some of the pipes, which lead to discoloration. The city has increased flushing of the pipes to prevent the sediment from reaching residents' homes.
