The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a winter storm warning for the North Texas region from 6 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 2 through 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 3. The City of Irving, along with the rest of the Dallas-Fort Worth region, can expect wet, wintry conditions with freezing temperatures and dangerous wind chills through Saturday, Feb. 5, according to the NWS.

The City of Irving's essential departments, including Police, Fire, Emergency Management, Fleet, Streets and Water Utilities, are ready to respond to issues that may arise during the winter weather.
As the winter weather forecast may impact power and safety conditions, residents are encouraged to check on their neighbors and loved ones in the area - particularly senior citizens. For up-to-date information and alerts, residents also should tune into their local news stations, social media and the National Weather Service Fort Worth website, Weather.gov/fwd/.

City of Irving Closures
Due to inclement winter weather, effective Wednesday, Feb. 2, all Irving Public Library locations will close at 5 p.m. and city recreation centers will close at 6 p.m.
Additionally, all non-essential City of Irving offices and facilities, including the Hunter Ferrell Landfill and Customer Service, will close Feb. 3-4 for visitors and non-essential staff. During this time, trash, recycling and brush/bulky item collection will be suspended, and collections will resume Monday, Feb. 7.
Essential services including Police, Fire, Emergency Management and Public Works are on call 24/7 to respond as appropriate.

- Outside water service: Turn off sprinklers, disconnect and drain hoses and cover outdoor faucets and exposed pipes.
- Pets: If possible, bring inside for the duration of the event. Provide warm shelters if unable to bring pets indoors.
- Indoor plumbing: Drip faucets for any plumbing adjacent to an outside wall to keep pipes from freezing. Open cabinet doors to improve air flow to pipes.
- Power: Expect and prepare for electricity outages. Contact Oncor to report power outages.
