Here are the top five stories today in Irving:

  1. A Grand Prairie man has been charged with murder after a burned body was discovered outside his popular Oak Cliff bakery. Manuel Tellez, 45-year-old owner of Maroches Bakery at 1330 Kings Highway is being accused of stabbing the victim multiple times, then setting fire to the body. Police identified the victim as Anthony Moreno, 52. (NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth)
  2. An Irving teacher who supported gay pride symbols in school says her contract will be terminated. The DA calls former MacArthur English teacher Rachel Stonecipher's placement of rainbow stickers "part of a personal agenda" after Irving ISD banned such symbols.   3. Look forward to a new grocery store in South Irving. An Albertson's will take the place of the former Fiesta store on Shady Grove Road around the close of this year. The store comes in response to community requests, and officials from the City of Irving worked for two years to help make it happen. (ICTN)
  4. Take a "Look" at a new luxury dine-in cinema that's opening in Arlington over at CultureMap Dallas. Look Drive-In Cinemas is set to welcome its first guests on May 5 with a showing of "Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness." The facility will offer craft cocktails, an extensive wine list, fried Oreos, queso and other comfort foods.
  5. Dallas Love Field is testing a new addition to its security team: a 7-foot-tall robot called SCOT (Security Control Observation Towers). SCOT will use artificial intelligence to assist personnel in watching for unmasked travelers and curbside loiterers, among other duties. (The Dallas Morning News; subscription required)
