Here are the top five stories today in Irving:
- On Saturday, an 18-wheeler carrying an excavator hit the Walnut Hill bridge. The bridge was damaged and remains closed while the structural safety of the bridge is assessed. Meanwhile commuters are urged to find another route. (Facebook)
- Madelyn Moore, a senior at Irving High School has been awarded a $48,000 scholarship to the University of Texas at Austin. The top performing student has a GPA of 103.1 and is the class president. Moore participates in a number of school activities and clubs including the National Honor Society. The scholarship Moore won is the Impact Scholarship, which is awarded to students who are making an impact on their communities. Congratulations to Madelyn Moore and her family. (Irving Weekly)
- A tanker truck and passenger escaped serious injury when the truck exploded at a jet fuel terminal Wednesday morning in Euless. The tanker truck was destroyed but the passenger was evacuated before the explosion. The terminal was shut down and will not reopen until it can be done so safely. (NBC)
- The last day to register to vote in the local elections in Irving is April 7. Several city posts are up for reselection including City Council positions 1, 2 and 7 in the May 7 General Election. (Twitter)
- See the video of a porch pirate burn a Ring doorbell camera with a torch-style lighter at Twitter. Irving Police are searching for the culprit who was caught in January on camera and they ask for the public’s help identifying the man whose face is clearly shown in the video.
