Lubbock Downtown Park to Break Ground, Begin Construction (klll.com) — A new downtown park in Lubbock breaks ground today at 2 p.m. at Broadway and Ave. L, with the public invited and the park’s new name set to be revealed. Construction is expected to take 9–10 months, bringing residents a multi-use greenspace with performance areas, family amenities, art installations, a pet park, food truck hookups, and game zones.
   

2. ‘I'm going to f*** up his house': Man arrested for aggravated kidnapping in Lubbock (everythinglubbock.com) — Lubbock authorities arrested 39-year-old Gustavo Ramirez on an aggravated kidnapping charge after a woman reported being followed, prevented from leaving his vehicle, and threatened over a friend’s home. Court records say the victim feared for her life and her friends’ safety before Ramirez was booked into the Lubbock County Detention Center on a $30,000 bond.
   

3. Behren Morton's elementary teacher attends Big 12 Championship, proud of his success as a Red Raider (kcbd.com) — Lubbock Red Raiders fans get a sentimental angle on Texas Tech quarterback Behren Morton as his former fifth-grade teacher recalls his early leadership and work ethic. Now a middle school teacher, she attended the Big 12 Championship with her daughter and says watching her former student lead Tech to a title still feels surreal and deeply rewarding.
   

4. West Texas middle schooler receives surprise party, kind letters after being bullied (kcbd.com) — A bullied Sweetwater middle schooler was treated to a surprise celebration at Chuck E. Cheese in Lubbock, where Bushland high schoolers showered her with support, letters, and games. The visit, tied to the national Be a Friend Project and supported by a Texas Tech student, turned years of hurt into a day of visible kindness and encouragement.
   

5. A Texas City Was Ranked Best for Drivers in the Nation (newstalk940.com) — Lubbock drivers get some good news in a new WalletHub study ranking the city among the 10 best in the nation for drivers, alongside Corpus Christi, Laredo, Plano, and Austin. While Texas overall often scores poorly for driving safety, the report highlights relatively favorable costs, traffic, and infrastructure in these cities compared with places like Philadelphia, which ranked worst.
