Frisco ISD wrestlers earned eight medals Saturday, including a pair of golds, on the final day of the UIL State Wrestling Championships at the Berry Center in Cypress.

Seniors Tyten Volk of Centennial and Alex Zavala of Heritage won weight-class championships in their final trips to the UIL state meet. Volk won the 152-pound weight class, pinning his first three opponents in the bracket and winning by a score of 5-0 in the championship. Zavala pinned two of his opponents, beat another by technical fall (15-0 score) and then battled for a 3-2 win in the final.
Four other FISD boys wrestlers finished second: Wakeland’s Zach Miller (106 pounds), Centennial’s Jasin Sejdini (160), Heritage’s Cortilius Vann (170) and Liberty’s De’Leon Freeman (220). In the girls brackets, Frisco’s Belen Rios was second at 128 pounds and Reedy’s Hadley Snyder was third at 138 pounds.

The top FISD teams in the boys standings were Heritage (10th) and Centennial (11th), while the Frisco girls team finished 15th.
