Here are the top three stories in McKinney-Frisco today:

  1. This Saturday, Apr. 30, McKinney's VFW Lone Star Post 2150 will celebrate the 100th birthday of local World War II veteran Eugene Trimble. The community is invited to join in a drive-by parade in front of his home on Creek Ridge Drive, with an official "Eugene Trimble Day in McKinney" proclamation from McKinney Mayor George Fuller. Anyone interested in participating can meet at the VFW by 3:30 p.m. on Saturday afternoon. (Star Local Media)
  2. Homeowners across Collin County are getting hit hard by skyrocketing property taxes. Out of 293,000 homes appraised in the county this year, only 2,500 did not see a rise in their property values; both Frisco and McKinney have reported home appraisal values above 30 percent. According to CBS 11 News, Collin County expects a record 100,000 homeowners to protest these appraisals. (CBS News)
  3. The Teachers Insurance and Annuity Association (TIAA) will establish a new corporate center in Frisco, according to an announcement from Governor Greg Abbott. The project is expected to create 2,000 new jobs and almost $58 million in capital investment. "On behalf of the Frisco City Council and the residents of Frisco, we are thrilled to welcome TIAA which will become one of the largest private sector employers in Frisco’s history,” said Frisco Mayor Jeff Cheney. "This is a huge win for Frisco and for Texas." (Office of the Texas Governor)
