Here are the top three stories in McKinney-Frisco today:

  1. As school districts across Texas debate whether to ban certain sexually explicit books, the McKinney Independent School District (ISD) and Mayor George Fuller have both spoken up on the issue. On Friday, McKinney ISD released a strong statement from Superintendent Dr. Rick McDaniel, which said the debate has been "largely fueled by political agendas, sensationalism, and exaggeration." Mayor Fuller, a Republican, has called the book-banning efforts "partisan pandering." (WFAA.com)
  2. Damien Wilson, linebacker for the Carolina Panthers, was arrested in Frisco last week on an assault charge, according to police. CBS Sports reports an ex-girlfriend accused Wilson of threatening to kill her, as well as choking her friend. Wilson's attorney has reportedly disputed all allegations. The Carolina Panthers released a statement saying the team was aware of the arrest but had no comment. (WFMY News 2)
  3. A Frisco-based dentist spoke to upcoming dental school graduates at the University of Mississippi Medical Center campus. Dr. Shalin Patel, who lives in Frisco with his wife and two children, shared his sage advice with fourth-year School of Dentistry students on Apr. 15. “Know your culture. Know your brand. Know who you are,” Patel advised the soon-to-be professionals. “Do private practice. Do public health. Whatever you do, don’t stop learning. Don’t stop collaborating." (WJTV)
