Night school initiative gains continued support in Lewisville ISD
Lewisville Independent School District reaffirms commitment to flexible education through OFSDP extension

Lewisville, Texas - At the board meeting held on June 12th, a consensus was reached to continue the Optional Flexible School Day Program (OFSDP) within the jurisdiction of the Lewisville Independent School District (LISD), as per Dallas Metro News.
The primary objective of this resolution is to facilitate the academic needs of "at-risk" students who are qualified to take advantage of the evening classes provided at the district's assigned educational facility, namely the Lewisville Learning Center.
In the capable hands of the district's officials, the OFSDP has proven to be a practical tool for determining the weighted average daily attendance of the students who opt for the night school syllabus. This distinctive model, specific to LISD, signifies the district's enduring commitment to accommodating a varied demographic of learners within its remit.

The recent approval by the board further solidifies the groundwork laid by LISD in the 2008-09 academic year when the OFSDP was first integrated into the district's framework. LISD authorities have reiterated their dedication to the program, praising its effectiveness in realizing the district's long-term objective of enhancing graduation rates among its students.
The OFSDP, by its design, serves a "greater percentage of students" compared to other conventional educational programs. The program is particularly tailored to assist students identified by state guidelines as being prone to leaving school prematurely, including those who have already done so. The OFSDP offers a solution to this widespread problem. Additionally, it encompasses students who are enrolled in institutions that adopt innovative approaches or are part of an approved early college high school program.

As per an internal memo within the district, the financial allocation for the OFSDP, as stipulated by the Texas Education Code 29.0822, corresponds to the weighted average daily attendance. The assigned funding is calculated on a prorated basis, dependent on the amount of time each eligible student spends in the program.
