The boy’s mother now faces a capital murder charge, while her boyfriend remains jailed on related offenses, as the child’s father publicly thanks the community for its support and calls for justice.
   

2. Aimbridge alleges contract violations in lawsuit against co-founder, former CEO Dave Johnson (costar.com) — A major hotel-management lawsuit has a direct McKinney tie: Dave Johnson’s Horizon Capital Partners, headquartered here and sharing a building with Dreamscape Hospitality, is central to Aimbridge Hospitality’s claims of contract violations. Aimbridge alleges Johnson broke noncompete-style consulting terms by aiding rival Dreamscape, while Johnson insists he’s simply an investor and denies soliciting Aimbridge’s clients or employees.

Dallas Skyrockets In Rankings of America's Most Sought-After Rental Cities (dallasobserver.com) — McKinney recently earned a standout distinction in a separate RentCafe study, which named it the best city in America for renters based on 20 quality-of-life metrics. A newer report, focused only on large cities, highlights Dallas’ surging rental demand, with big jumps in online searches and favorites, and shows how North Texas continues to attract apartment hunters from across the country.
   

4. Grapevine-Colleyville trustees to vote on elementary school closures (keranews.org) — McKinney ISD is mentioned as one of several North Texas districts already closing campuses, with three elementary schools recently approved for closure. Grapevine-Colleyville ISD now faces a similar vote, driven by enrollment declines and financial pressures, while parents and students push back emotionally against shutting two local elementary schools.
   

5. 2025 all-area volleyball: See individual awards, full first, second and third teams (dallasnews.com) — One of the region’s top volleyball honors went to McKinney North senior libero Gabi Rodriguez, who racked up 711 digs for a 36-4 team that reached the 5A Region II final. She joins a stacked all-area list featuring elite players from across North Texas and multiple national All-Americans.
