1 Killed, 30 Hurt In Rollover Bus Crash On Highway 36

A bus carrying employees from a construction worksite, lost control and rolled down an embankment at State Highway 36 and Highway 288.

FREEPORT, TX — One person was killed and dozens more were injured when a bus that was transporting about 30 passengers from a worksite crashed on State Highway 36, police said. The crash happened at about 3 p.m. near the Highway 288 entrance ramp and the Brazos River.

Officials said the bus was transporting workers from Zachary Construction, from a work site to a parking area when witnesses said the bus lost control and began to fishtail.

The bus ran off the roadway and rolled several times, officials said. Several people sustained minor injuries and were taken to St. Luke's Hospital in Lake Jackson for treatment. At least one person was taken by LifeFlight to Memorial Hermann Hospital in unknown condition.

The identity of the person killed has not been released.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
