146 Expansion Disrupts Seabrook Businesses, But They're Staying
At least 76 business have been impacted with the construction on State High 146, which began in the spring.
SEABROOK, TX — The construction on State Highway 146 has impacted a number of fast food chains and other small eateries, forcing many of them to consider leaving the area or simply relocating in town.
According to city officials, at least 76 business have been impacted with the construction that began in the spring.
State Highway 146, a key traffic artery through Seabrook, connects Galveston and Houston and is also a hurricane evacuation route for thousands of residents in the region.

It's also been a magnet for area businesses to Seabrook. As a result, many see the benefit of staying put in the communities they call home.
In May, Mario’s Flying Pizza reopened their doors at their new location on NASA Parkway and both CVS and Autozone relocated to the Repsdorph Circle Town Center last year in anticipation of the project.

Other impacted businesses, such as Life Storage, are in the process of modifying their properties to comply with the new right-of-way.
McDonalds, which had been at its location on 146 for 40 years, was displaced by the right-of-way acquisition and reopened its brand-new location at State Highway 146 and Repsdorph Road.
"We are happy we were able to stay in Seabrook," said franchise owner Robert Flores during the official ribbon-cutting on July 2.
Although the construction can cause some headaches for motorists, Seabrook Mayor Thom Kolupski said that the project is generating excitement for the city's future as a generator for economic development.
"We are seeing great interest in new commercial businesses, retailers, and restaurateurs who are eager to establish in Seabrook," he said.
