Deer Park Chemical Fire Is Finally Extinguished
Firefighters are continuing to douse the tanks with foam and water to ensure there are no flare ups, officials announced.

DEER PARK, TX β The fire that burned fuel tanks at a Deer Park petrochemical facility for more than three days has finally been extinguished. Officials at the Intercontinental Terminals Company broke the news at about 4 a.m. that firefighters had been extinguished the blaze at about 3 a.m.
Firefighters are continuing to douse the tanks with foam and water to ensure there are no flare ups, officials announced.
The fire began at about 10:30 a.m. Sunday, igniting gasoline fuel additives in two tanks. By Monday the fire had spread to six other tanks, and blanketing Deer Park and other nearby communities with thick black smoke.

On Monday, schools in Deer Park and La Porte were closed out of an abundance of caution. Both districts were in session on Tuesday.
No one as injured during the initial blast or while fighting the fire, officials reported. ITC officials advise anyone who is suffering health issues related to the smoke to call their health care provider.
