DEER PARK, TX β€” The Shell facility in Deer Park has issued a shelter in place at parts of its facility after detecting levels of benzene, officials said. The shelter in place order comes hours after firefighters extinguished a massive blaze at the Intercontinental Terminals Company, which lasted nearly four days and sent thick black smoke billowing over the Houston skyline.

Shell officials said the shelter in place order was merely precautionary, and that benzene levels while below federal standards were above company standards.

No injuries were reported.
