GALVESTON COUNTY, TX — The family of the late Kemah Police Chief Chris Reed has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Maersk, a Danish shipping company. The family filed their lawsuit Monday in Galveston County and accused the shipping company of negligence by failing to prevent damage to other vessels, according to court documents.

Reed and his wife were on a fishing boat near the Texas City Dike on June 7, when a wake allegedly caused by a Maersk container ship impacted the fishing boat they were on and knocked Reed overboard.

Jana Reed said she threw her husband a rope when he went overboard. She said in court documents that her husband was hit bu a second wave and went under. Search crews found Reeds body two days after the incident.
