The City of La Porte offers grant funding up to $5000 for Neighborhood Projects. These projects fall into several categories, such as beautification, landscaping, safety and security, signage, electrical work for community amenities, recreational equipment, and lighting.

The grant also provides assistance to local neighborhoods for purchasing cameras to deter criminal activity and to assist with criminal investigations and increase the probability of solving local crimes.

So far, one La Porte neighborhood has taken advantage of the camera program, officials said. The camera in this particular area is being used to monitor vehicular traffic entering and exiting the area and captures photos of vehicles and their license plates.

It is controlled by a monitoring company who will only release information to the police department that is relative to an active criminal investigation.

When a crime is reported, the neighborhood police department investigators will be able to access data captured by the camera which ultimately can lead to solving the case.

HOA's or businesses that want to take advantage of this program should contact Sgt. Stewart at
