Pearland ISD Confirms TB Diagnosis at Pearland High School

The Brazoria County Health Department Is Investigating A Case Of TB At Pearland High School, District Officials Said.

PEARLAND, TX — Officials in Pearland ISD said that a person previously linked to the Pearland High School campus had tested positive for tuberculosis. District officials said Friday they were contacted by the Texas Department of State Health Services that a person previously at the school had a preliminary diagnosis of TB.

Officials didn’t say if the person diagnosed with the airborne illness was a student or a teacher.

  • Fever
  • Chills
  • Lethargy
  • Night Sweats
  • Coughing
  • Chest Pain
  • Loss of Appetite
  • Unexplained weight loss

Testing for TB is conducted through either a blood test or skin test and is a painless procedure.

"The well being of all students and staff is important to Pearland ISD and we will continue to work diligently to ensure a healthy school environment," the district said in a news release.

The Brazoria County Health Department is investigating the case, will reach out to those students and staff who may have had contact with the individual district officials said.

Over the last year, three Houston area high schools have had reported cases of tuberculosis. All of those schools were in Fort Bend County.
