📰 News we're reading

• Community funds 247 teacher ‘Mini-Grants' (myreporternews.com) — Pearland ISD teachers just had all 247 of their classroom mini-grant requests fully funded, thanks to $53,711 in donations from local residents, businesses, and the Education Foundation. Community events, football game promotions, and local sponsors like Steamboat Bills and Bayway Lincoln helped push the 2025 Give a Grant Campaign over the top, directly supporting Pearland classrooms.

• Pearland Council says no to events facility at cemetery (myreporternews.com) — Pearland City Council has narrowly rejected a permit for a new “celebration of life” events facility at Paradise Cemetery South near Hughes Ranch Road and Cullen Parkway, citing parking and traffic concerns. The split vote halts plans for a building at 2237 Cullen Parkway that would host services before burials at the long-established cemetery.

• Legal pressures mount for Ten Commandment law (myreporternews.com) — Pearland ISD is one of 16 districts named in a new class action lawsuit challenging Texas’ law requiring Ten Commandments displays in public schools. Local teachers and parents have already voiced concerns at school board meetings, arguing the mandate is unconstitutional and inappropriate for some students, while supporters say the Commandments are key to understanding American history.
