DART to receive $25 million grant for Silver Line project
This financial backing will serve as the backbone for the construction of trails along the Silver Line

Plano - With a mission to strengthen Dallas's infrastructure, the Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) is preparing to utilize a generous $25 million grant, provided by the U.S. Department of Transportation. This substantial financial injection is earmarked to provide pivotal support for the creation of trails along the Silver Line, with the objective of enriching the regional commute.
The grant, announced last Friday by the office of U.S. Representative Colin Allred, a democrat representing Texas's 32nd district, designates the funds for crafting a shared-use trail spanning approximately 5.2 miles. This trail, replete with comprehensive safety features, will extend from Meandering Way in Dallas to Shiloh Road in Plano. The trail's design blueprint also includes seamless integration with several Silver Line rail station platforms, thereby amplifying accessibility.
"The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law continues to deliver for our community, and this grant will help DART with this important project that spans from Dallas to Plano along the Silver Line," said Allred in a statement as reported by NBC DFW.

"With our region's rapid growth, these types of investments are critical, and I will keep working with local leaders to ensure we can create jobs, reduce congestion and grow our economy by investing in our infrastructure."
Allred, a key figure in the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, championed the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, which is expected to direct at least $35 billion towards Texas in the upcoming five years. A considerable $15 billion has already been assigned.

The North Central Texas Council of Governments' support for the DART grant further reinforces the broad endorsement this comprehensive infrastructure initiative enjoys.
The Silver Line, a significant 26-mile transit corridor, extends from the north side of Dallas-Fort Worth Airport to Shiloh Road in Plano. It navigates through seven cities - Grapevine, Coppell, Dallas, Carrollton, Addison, Richardson, and Plano - across three counties - Tarrant, Dallas, Collin. The Silver Line, offering the potential to significantly improve intercity connectivity, is scheduled to begin operations by the close of 2025 or in the first half of 2026.
