Plano - The Regional Transportation Council is set to deliberate over the allocation of $5.3 million towards improvements for the Silver Line Regional Rail Project in Dallas at their meeting on July 13. The information was confirmed by Dallas Metro News as per the details in the meeting agenda.

The council meeting, scheduled to convene at 1 p.m. on July 13 at 616 Six Flags Drive, Arlington, is expected to address the approval of federal funding for this initiative. This action stems from the resolution strategy between the Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) and the city of Dallas. The meeting's agenda is accessible for public viewing online.

The allocation of this federal funding to the Silver Line project, requested by the council of governments' staff, will signify the final element of the resolution strategy between DART and the city of Dallas.

This decision follows the Dallas City Council's recent approval of a revised agreement with DART, leading to an estimated $90 million in surplus sales tax revenue, as established during their June 14 gathering, CI reported.

Originally, Dallas was guaranteed over $111 million in surplus funds by DART. However, this figure was later reduced to less than $30 million in February. The intervention of the council of governments led to a renegotiated agreement, raising Dallas' allotment to $90 million.

Upon the transportation council's endorsement, the $5.3 million funding will be channeled towards enhancements along the silver line trail in Dallas. The resolution agreement also earmarks $15.4 million in federal funds, previously endorsed by the transportation council last June, for the development of Dallas' Five Mile Creek Hike and Bike Trail.
