Martinez's struggle for survival extended over three months of hospitalization, which concluded with his long-awaited discharge on Wednesday. He recalls completing an Uber assignment in Plano and then heading towards a traffic junction on the day of the incident. This is where he believes he was shot multiple times.

“The guy shot me six times. I got six shots in me. I got my phone, and I called 911,” Martinez shared during an interview with Fox 4.

Post this urgent plea for help, Martinez's recollection fades, resurfacing after a strenuous recovery period of nearly four months in the hospital, a month of which he spent in a coma.

Once he regained consciousness, the 33-year-old was met with the shocking fact of having been struck by six bullets.

In his struggle to reconstruct the events of that frightful March night, Martinez expressed his confusion upon waking, "I go, 'Why am I here?' he recalled. "I didn't know what happened."

Despite the daunting path to recovery that awaits him outside the hospital, Martinez acknowledges his fortunate survival of such a traumatic incident.

The police records highlight that Martinez was carrying out his Uber duties during the late-night shift on March 3 when the shooting occurred. After dropping off a passenger near West Parker Road in Plano around 12:46 a.m., he himself called the police minutes later. Martinez was shot four times in the stomach, with an additional shot to the side and chest.

Plano police identified 42-year-old Robert Crolley as the suspect who allegedly shot Guillermo Martinez in a road rage incident before fleeing the scene.

According to the arrest warrant, surveillance footage from the intersection of West Parker Road and Rainer Road captured Martinez's Tesla next to an Infiniti for a few seconds before gunshots were heard.

Investigators traced the license plate of the Infiniti to Crolley, whose home is just a mile from the crime scene. A late-March traffic stop revealed that Crolley was carrying a magazine of ammunition and a firearm matching the spent shell casings from the shooting scene.

When asked about Crolley, Martinez admitted that he did not recognize him nor remembered any argument between them on that night.

“I feel like a new person. Everything is different for me,” Martinez said, reflecting on the physical and mental impact of the incident, which led him to lose nearly 50 pounds during his hospital stay.

As a father to an eight-year-old, Martinez acknowledges the long, challenging road to recovery ahead, including scheduled surgeries in the upcoming month.

“My life is changed. Everything has changed for me,” he expressed.

Furthermore, an affidavit reveals that Crolley texted his roommate hours after the shooting, stating, “I got drunk. It happens. So what?”

Currently, Crolley remains in custody at the Collin County jail, facing charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, according to Dallas Metro News.
