Coffee Chat Offers Virtual Discussion With Artist Manik Raj Nakra

Big Medium will host Nakra as part of the Coffee Chat series that features artists sharing their experiences to inspire careers in art.

AUSTIN, TX —Big Medium, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting artists and building community through the arts in Austin and across Texas, will host Manik Raj Nakra as part of their Coffee Chat series, to discuss his work and connect to an engaged and diverse audience. Making art a part of everyday life, Coffee Chat is designed to inspire others in their pursuit of careers in Art.

Coffee Chat with Manik Raj Nakra takes place Thursday, Oct. 15 from 11 a.m. - 12 p.m. and will be held as a virtual event. The discussion will center on the paintings, drawings, and installations of Nakra and how these take on the possibility of addressing the ancient world as his own. Nakra’s work applies a contemporary lens onto Indian iconography, colonial anachronisms, artifacts from early civilizations, and ceremonial folklore to explore themes such as egoism, lust, and self-sabotage. These themes, handled with wild colors, pattern, and stark compositions, illuminate the historically rooted, but contemporarily relevant narratives on power, beauty, paranoia, devotion, and revelation.

His work has been included in numerous solo and group exhibitions throughout Texas and San Francisco, a member of the 2019 Crit Group program with The Contemporary in Austin, TX, and a client list that includes Converse, Facebook, The LINE Hotel, Urban Outfitters amongst others.
