Coronavirus: WilCo Illness Count Grows To 528, 1 More Death

A man in his 90s became the 21st person from the county to die from the coronavirus.

WILLIAMSON COUNTY, TX — Another person has died from the coronavirus in Williamson County, bringing the the total fatality count in the county to 21, Williamson County health officials said Friday. In addition, the diagnoses count grew to 528 in the past 24 hours — an increase of eight from the previous day.

The latest patient who died from the respiratory illness was a man in his 90s, according to the Williamson County and Cities Health District. Privacy protection laws preclude officials from releasing more details, they noted.

“This is not the first time we have had to face the devastating news of a member of our community passing, and unfortunately it may not be the last," Williamson County Judge Bill Gravell said in a prepared statement.

"For that reason," Gravell continued, "it is crucial that I emphasize the importance of protecting the elderly and anyone with an underlying health condition. By wearing a face-covering in public, utilizing proper sanitation methods, and keeping a distance of at least six feet from other people, you are helping us keep these vulnerable folks out of the hands of COVID-19. Together, we can make a positive impact and protect our community members.”

Figures related to the spread of respiratory illness in the county can be found on a statistical dashboard that is updated daily at www.wcchd.org/COVID-19/dashboard.php. According to the dashboard, 294 patients have recovered after contracting the COVID-19 virus. The current number of active cases is 213, according to the dashboard.

Health officials continue to urge those exhibiting symptoms of respiratory illness — including cough, fever and shortness of breath — to contact their health care providers. However, health officials stress the importance of calling ahead before arriving at a clinic, urgent care or emergency department to avoid potential spread.
