Here are the top stories today in Round Rock:

  1. Police are investigating an assault that occurred at the H-E-B off of University Blvd. The incident took place on March 12, where an employee was assaulted by two females. The vehicle the assailants rode in was reported stolen and also occupied two males and one other female. The vehicle has since been recovered and believed to be involved in other crimes in Austin. Visit City of Round Rock for more details.
  2. Canyon Vista Middle School Orchestra Director Ragan Whatley, was selected as the 2023 Director of Distinction by The Texas Orchestra Directors Association (TODA). Annually, "TODA members nominate a Texas orchestra director with 10 or more years of teaching experience who exemplifies excellence in teaching and has shown a commitment to lifetime service and leadership in Texas. " His award will be presented at an event in San Antonio on July 21. Check out Round Rock ISD News for more.
  3. Things continue brewing in Texas Legislation: House bill 1507 "would fine teachers and school officials up to $10,000 for celebrating or providing special instruction on sexual preference, including events like Pride week." Educators could also get their teaching licenses revoked or suspended. While Rep. Ken King is in opposition of teaching sexual ideologies in schools, Round Rock Democrat Rep. James Talarico doesn't want to prevent schools from, "celebrating groups of students that have faced historical discrimination," including students who identify as being gay. KXAN has more on this story.
