Here are the top three stories in Round Rock today:

  1. Labor shortages, including electrical workers, could impact the tornado repairs. Experts say there are not enough electricians in Texas for the high demand that will soon get worse. The more severe electrical work is tied up in insurance claims at the moment but when insurance claims are paid out, there will be a big shortage of labor. (Spectrum News)
  2. The Round Rock Independent School District wants parents and the community to provide feedback on changes to the middle school health and human sexuality curriculum for the next school year. Proposed changes include teaching seventh and eighth graders about birth control and sexually transmitted infections. Community members can share their input in person on Apr. 13, at the Old Hopewell Conference Center at the Lillie Delgado Administration building, 1311 Round Rock Avenue. Residents can also provide feedback online here until Apr. 20, 2022. (Austin American-Statesman)
  3. Five districts in Travis County, including Round Rock ISD, failed the property valuation study in 2021. School districts collect taxes based on the value of property in the district, which the local district calculates. The Texas comptroller also conducts a property value study to make sure the local district's number is within five percent of the comptroller's number. The districts were found "invalid" for the 2021 tax year due to an over five percent difference in property valuations between the local district and the state comptroller.
