Here are the top three stories in Round Rock today:

  1. The City of Round Rock reported that four leaks in the Brushy Creek Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant are causing about 2 million gallons of extra water to flow into Brushy Creek. This exceeds the amount of water the plant can treat, causing untreated sewage to be dumped into the creek. Round Rock, Cedar Park, Leander, and Austin all contribute to the treatment plant. While crews are working on fixing the leaks, Cedar Park Wastewater Treatment Plant will help by treating an additional 200,000 gallons of water a day. (KXAN)
  2. On Mar. 31, the Round Rock ISD board unanimously approved pay increases for educational assistants, paraprofessionals, library assistants, interventionists, and interpreters. RRISD's
chief financial officer, Dennis Covington, said the pay increases are funded by $470,000 that was budgeted for currently unfilled positions. Place 6 Trustee Tiffanie Harrison said the board was not done making pay increases and "this is the market rate adjustment to get us to where we should have been, which is still not enough." 3. Round Rock ISD teacher Marjorie Manning was named a finalist for the H-E-B Excellence in Education Elementary Leadership Award for her work at Sommer Elementary School. As one of five finalists in Texas, H-E-B awarded Manning a $1,000 grant for her classroom and a $1,000 cash prize. The award recognizes passionate and innovative teachers with 10 to 20 years of experience in the classroom. Winners of the H-E-B Excellence in Education Awards will be announced in May.
