Over 2,000 People Have Signed Round Rock High School Dress Code Petition

Students say the dress code is too strict.

More than 2,000 people have signed a petition by students at Round Rock HIgh School to let them wear shorts to class.

The school has been enforcing its dress code and recently did a “sweep” of students at the school.

“Young men and women were asked to stand up and put their finger tips by their sides or on their shoulders to make sure they were in dress code due to their outfits being ‘distractive’ or ‘disruptive’ to the learning environment. Many young women were sentenced to detentions for showing their shoulder blades or mid thighs. Understandably, some students found this humiliating,” the petition says.

“The goal of the Dress Code is to stop distractions, which students can agree with. However, interrupting class instruction for a dress code ‘sweep’ is far more distracting than the articles of clothing be examined themselves.”

The student handbook says that “shorts must be at finger-tip or mid-thigh length as measured with relaxed shoulders.”

The school district told KXAN that they gave plenty of notice about the dress code enforcement.
