Here are the top stories in Round Rock today:

  1. Attention travelers: Traffic safety concerns caused by railroad issues lie west of Round Rock Avenue. Because of these conditions, Round Rock Avenue is closed, while Chisholm Trail Road is open for travel. Officials are asking drivers to seek alternative routes, while authorities are working with Union Pacific to fix the problems at hand. Check back with KEYE TV CBS Austin for further updates on this situation.
  2. I wasn't one of the lucky ones who got to check out the new library, were you? Round Rock Public Library celebrated its grand opening with pops of color and a good crowd. It has so much more square footage to get your reading on! Our new library is 66,000 square feet, has a three-story parking garage, and tons more to check out when you have time to explore. Thanks to Hensel Phelps and PGAL Inc. for the library's beautiful design and construction. The library cost $34.7 million, with the parking garage coming in at $13.4 million. Visit KEYE TV CBS Austin for more details.
  3. Tyesha Tanner waited three years to receive a "not guilty" verdict, following the death of her husband, Justin Silas in 2019. At the time, police believed that this incident was "domestic in nature." Tanner's attorney, Ryan Deck, issued this statement on behalf of his client: "Tyesha has waited for over 3 long years for the full truth to come to light. We knew that when a jury heard all the facts surrounding this tragedy, she would be acquitted of all charges." (KXAN)
  4. Did you know that Round Rock generates revenue from allowing surrounding cities to do lab testing at Brushy Creek East Wastewater Treatment Plant? At the Jan. 26 City Council meeting, members approved $5 increases "to the cost of eight-hour and 24-hour E. coli presence testing from $20 to $25 per sample and 18-hour and 24-hour E. coli enumeration tests from $25 to $30 per sample."
