Pride Of Round Rock Advances To UIL Wrestling Championships
Senior Michael Seijo could bring home the first-ever wrestling title to his school this coming weekend.

ROUND ROCK, TX -- Cedar Ridge High School is grappling with an unprecedented development, but in a good way: A homegrown athlete will advance to the UIL wrestling championships this week -- a historic first for his school.
Michael Seijo will compete in the University Interscholastic League meet that begins Feb. 19 as the lone representative from Cedar Ridge, the Austin American-Statesman notes in a glowing profile of the young wrestler.
But without community support, the athlete’s singular accomplishment may never have come to pass, he told the newspaper.

“Really thankful for everything,” he said. “It’s a community that really started and created this. I know there were a bunch of things that had to happen for me to get this opportunity.”
Seijo told the paper he credits his school and community for having championed him along the way to the UIL competition. Without that support, he would likely not be the Class 6A, Region IV he is today wrestling at 145 lbs.

He might still be wrestling at club level, he adds.
Now, the senior with a winning 19-1 record has the chance to deliver the school district’s first title in the competitive sport.
“I’m taking it one match at a time,” Seijo said humbly. “But that winning would be everything.”
The UIL championships take place Feb. 19-20 in Cypress. There’s no doubt the hopes of an entire community will be represented in those bleachers.
