Round Rock ISD Athletics, Ascension Texas team up for student-athlete injury and healthcare
Round Rock ISD athletics has enlisted Ascension Texas Orthopedics and Sports Medicine to provide sports medicine care for middle and high school student-athletes. The collaboration provides the District's 6,600 middle and high school student-athletes access to an interdisciplinary team of Ascension Texas network providers for sideline sports injury, healthcare and weekend clinics.
Certified athletic trainers and sports medicine doctors from Ascension Texas Orthopedics and Sports Medicine, a part of Ascension Seton and Dell Children’s, ensure Round Rock ISD student-athletes receive optimal care in the athletic training setting with preventative education and services.

"Ascension Seton is a Central Texas established and leading healthcare organization," said Dwayne Weirich, Round Rock ISD Director of Athletics. "This collaboration supports our District's commitment to providing all our student-athletes the safest possible circumstances to play and enjoy sports and athletic activities.”
“For middle school athletes, we saw a need in the community for access to on-site, timely care, which aligns with our mission and values,” said Adam Bauman, Vice President, Orthopedics, Sports and Rehabilitation Services, Ascension Texas. “This inclusive community benefit ensures injuries can be evaluated and athletes can safely return to play. The program also provides ready access to nearby facilities, including Dell Children’s Medical Center North (opening in April), Ascension Seton Williamson and Ascension Seton Northwest, when immediate medical care is needed.”

The Round Rock ISD Athletics and Ascension Texas Orthopedics and Sports Medicine collaboration consists of athletic trainer and physician medical services for District student-athletes, including:
- At the game, Ascension Texas Orthopedics and Sports Medicine athletic trainers and doctors are on the sidelines, ready to offer necessary sports-related injury or healthcare,
- Musculoskeletal injury evaluation, prevention, and illness management,
- Ascension Seton Network Providers offers established drop-in weekend orthopedic injury clinics,
- Operational and staffing support provided for annual pre-participation physicals,
- Concussion management and baseline IMPACT concussion testing opportunities, and
- Offering accessibility and continuity of care by Ascension Seton clinics, hospitals and speciality services.
The collaboration also includes the addition of the website: https://athletics.roundrockisd.org/student-athlete-care/. The website will include information on sports performance, health education, injury prevention and care, “doc talk” instructional videos, athletic training, physical therapy and rehab, orthopedic and clinic information, athletic trainer overviews and more.
